Gods
- The romans had many gods. At first roman gods were ethereal beings, having no personalities or appearances.
- As Rome expanded and came into contact with the Greeks more and more their gods started to develop personalities and appearances, like the Greek Gods. Eventually Roman and Greek Gods became so similar they had equals.
- The Roman God Jupiter was equal to the Greek God Zeus, the Roman God Neptune was equal to the Greek God Poseidon, Pluto to Hades, Mars to Ares, Venus to Aphrodite.
- These gods had different attributes: Jupiter was king of the gods and ruler of the sky and in particular, storms. Pluto was the god of mining, the underworld and the dead. Mars was the god of war.
- The gods were used to explain why things happened, why the sun rose and set, why people fell in love, why there were storms. Although influenced by the Greeks, Roman Gods were more order and less erratic.
- Romans built statues of their gods
